I agree with you completely. They get way too much for nothing already with the free housing, foodstamps, and welfare checks. Even Bill Cosby agrees with you.

Well, actually it's not about race and how black people use slavery as a crutch. It's about economic and social stauts. There are as many whites on welfare as blacks and latinos. In most cases those that are from lower classes have a tendency to abuse the common rights and privledges that the government has provided. Education is also a factor as to why minorites and some whites abuse the system and make excuses in general. Slavery, in fact did take place and although people make as if it doesnt exist now, just looking at the different media outlets, ie. Kramer doing stand-up, recent episodes of the Real World. It still does. Men although created equal are not treated equal. When the time comes when people worry about becoming better people period disregarding race and other stereotypes, this nature in society will exist. I am black and I have experienced racism, but i have never held it against the person, but i continued to strive and not makes excuses. SO PEOPLE STOP MAKING EXCUSES. THAT GOES FOR EVERBODY

Slavery created an air of mistrust among blacks in the US. Passed down through generations A mistrust that seems to be a stumbling block to some. This mistrust holds many back and fearful of the establishment. The problem doesn't appear to be a misconception, but a reality.
I don't think there are many blacks that really feel someone owes them something, but one thing the mainstream does owe them is the right to everything that makes the US what it is.
The only way you can help is to treat all people with respect and dignity. That goes a long way.

We know the history. Maybe some black folks are angry because they never got money from the government. They never got a fair share. The Japes did. In world war 2 we Americans put Japes in camps that were here in America in some Japes were Americans, but they all had to go to a camp during world war 2. Years later the government paid there family's. And the Indians got paid from the government years later for taking what was there's.And the Jews did. The cubains did. So why not the black folks. You may not owe them nothing but your government does. They shouldn't of got paid 3 generations ago. And also it hasn't been long since they couldn't vote or live in some towns or city's just like in the slavery days. So some people are still angry with that. I no a lot of black folks. I use to live in south central L.A. and a lot of blacks still don't trust white folks. Can you blame them. I believe it will be a white person who will get you in trouble fast, get you fired, make you fight. There the ones in the jails who start these riots you hear on the news. In the inmates are not going to say who REALLY started them. They know that the police will get them.. And these white cops do. Its a huge issue. We can talk about all night. But its not going to change whats owed to the black race. Like I said YOU don't owe them but YOUR government does.

I agree it should not be used as a crutch, no doubt!
However, yes, this country does owe reparation for slavery. If you ever have a chance visit D.C. and also the Smithsonian's African HIstory Museum - you will then understand.
In a nutshell can you imagine being divested of your ENTIRE history? Never knowing who you were, where you came from, what your name was, your families accomplishments, not having any anectodotal familial stories to tell?...being divested of your native language and customs? Having your parents torn from you and your siblings too? And then being subjected to rape, toil, starvation, beatings and who knows what?
Just recently I read a psychological piece in a Medical journal on the effects of wiping out a person's entire history.........DEVASTATING...and in the case of slavery a ENTIRE GROUP OF PEOPLE LOST THEIR IDENTITY forever.
BTW - Roots was an exception to the rule...FEW have been able to trace their origins ... and even if they could, those who were their forebears have long since died.
People compare Blacks and Slavery to the Holocaust - BOTH WERE ABOMINABLE...but also very very different.
One not worse than the other - but equal in atrocities.
Believe it or not but that which is visited on one generation and its 'poison' within lives on and on for generations to come...particularly if the place where it occured continues to make 'differences'.
The villages and towns from whence those were captured came were HOME to those people - they had families, occupations, trades, friends and a culture as old as the world is.
Taken to foreign lands they were separated from EVERYTHING that gave them identity - forced to speak a different language - and wrenched from everything they knew.
YEARS later after Emancipation SOME were able to locate wives and children but for the most part they were lost forever.
As you may be aware not much changed for the majority of Blacks in this country until the 60's with the passing of the Civil Rights Act of 1964...it continues to be an unhill struggle for Blacks to reach parity in this country.
SHOULD you be interested there is a piece written by a Caucasian author called "White Privilege" which is an extremely interesting and reflective look into the 'average Joe' who does not 'see' racism until he takes a close look.

Honestly? It's two fold. 1) Because the majority of black people live in bad conditions and continue to suffer the effects of slavery until this day. They live in poor neighborhoods and attend poor schools, which will only serve as a repetetive cycle to keep them where they are. 2) Black people lack the sense of community and urgency that is necessary to get them out of their situation. Though there are forces holding black people back, they are certainly not innocent. They are bitter and resentful and yes... often time lazy and do not take advantage of the oppurtunities society provides for them . They would simply rather just complain and be angry rather than get off their behinds, join together and be proactive.
In short, it is a combination of the legitiment circumstances black people face and the ones they exaggerate and fabricate that enables them to use slavery as a crutch.
Oh and by the way... I'M BLACK. So everyone reading this can get that weird, uncomfortable feeling out of their gut because I can say the truth about my own people. It's politically acceptable for me to do it. Lol.
P.S. - The person who compared slavery and blacks to jews and the holocaust should be smacked. Those are two incomparable incidences. Learn your history please. That's true ignorance. And also, why is it that no one seems to be giving this guy answers. He didn't ask for you to disagree or agree, he wanted an answer.

I believe you are stereotyping. I guess the reason why people still have slavery on their mind is that there is a feeling of a void of justice.
While it mind seem trivial or debatable to you, a lot of minorities feel that white america has not truly atoned for the Sins of the Father.
America likes to talk about spreading peace, democracy and justice to the world (iraq) and they like to accuse other cultures of being barbaric, but forget to remember that just 40 yrs ago a minority could be arrested for being in the wrong area, minorities were hanged for looking at the wrong woman and the list goes on. While there is a feel good feeling from the passage of the civil rights act, has there been justice for "War Crimes" committed against American Indians and Black People and minorities ?
By the way you might insist that the sins of your father are not your burden, but i pose this question, would you accept the legacy of a father. i.e if your grandfather was Rockfeller won't you accept his Legacy ?

some blacks use slavery as a crutch because they're uniformed. However, others encourage this behavior by suggesting that black oppression is ancient, and non existent in today's time. Everyone needs consider the notion that Jim Crow was a reality of many living today. It really, wasn't that long ago

First of all, yes slavery was that bad. Second, its not just that, but look at some of the responses, it is clear that some people are still quite racist, clearly they live in mud and they can shove their burning crosses up them and put their white sheets tightly over their head. I see equality hasn't sunk in yet. And if I hear one more thing about welfare again, im gonna explode. Blacks certainly do work hard for their money, certainly not lazy. Get out more, jeez.

Hey you! Firstly, don't insult me! secondly, stop being ignorant.
Not all Black people were slaves okay? As I am 100% African and my ancestors were never slaves to anyone.
Get your facts straight. Only African Americana and some caribbean were actually slaves.
Get over yourself.

Agreed. reparations are out of the question too. I am not racist but it's time to start living in 2007 and slavery is a part of last century! I think they as a people complain about it because under the constitution they are allowed to, and that's the beauty of America.
