Because some poor misguided woman invented them ages ago on the pretext that they would improve their figure. This follows along the time of the corsets that nipped your waist into a ridiculous size of under 20 inches. Gravity will do what it pleases whether you wear one or not.

Umm why do women wear bras?? that would be so their breasts don't sag from not having any support~ and to look fantastic in any top* LOL

if u dont support them when ur young,when ur in ur 50's they will start to hang-not a good look .bras help prevent this.if u are well-endowed by nature,it is terribly uncomfortable to be active-jog,play tennis,etc. if ur "chest" is bouncing around,it actually hurts.if u are little and young,u can get away with it for awhile,but eventually gravity will get to u as well! also,if ur nipples are showing,men leer and stare and regard u as loose.not fair,especially if ur chillin'in a britney spears top on a hot day,but the attention is unwelcome.guys can take off their shirts,but if women show "too much",men regard it as a sexual thing,when probably ur just trying to be comfortable.

Besides holding up their breasts, bras can make you look bigger (push up or padded) or create a smooth line for Tshirts or clingy dresses.
