I have mice in our kitchen in a 1st floor flat and the exterminator cannot come for 2 weeks. We cannot have a cat. I have blocked up every hole I can find with tin foil but they keep coming............ Any tips?

Mice can enter through very small holes (much smaller than you would imagine). They will enter through gaps around pipes and wires, and if the gap is big enough to fit a pencil in, small mice can enter. You can try filling the holes with a can of expandable foam sealant which is available at hardware stores. Mouse traps work. Using the right bait helps. For rats, I suggest peanuts in the shell (for mice, use 1/2 peanut). Fasten the peanut to the trap with thin wire (like a twist tie from a bread wrapper), and coat lightly with peanut butter. This will attract them, but they will have a hard time stealing the bait. You can also make a trap with a 5 gallon bucket and a lever, like a teeter-totter, with the bait at the end of the lever. When the mouse gets to the end of the lever to get the bait, it will drop into the bucket. If you put water in the bucket, it will drown the mouse (otherwise, you take the mouse outside to dispose of it). They are coming in to eat. Put all of your food away in sealed jars or tins. They especially like pet food. Rodents usually try to nest nearby the food source. Set the traps where you have seen the mice, and near their food source. Sticky traps also work. I am not a fan of poison(it does work), because other animals may eat the dying rodents and become sick. I hope that this helps you. Good luck!

Tin foil will not keep mice out. You need to fill those holes up with Brillo pads. They don't like the way they feel and they won't pass through them. For mice that get in from holes you have not found yet,,,try deacon. I live in the country and we sometimes get field mice in the winter looking for a warm place and this method has worked for me for 6 years. After the first year of fixing holes we have not had any more mice.

I don't know about tin foil, but I know steel wool works the best when filling holes to keep mice out. Definitly set up some traps behind refrigerator, etc. and try baiting it with bread or bread with a little peanut butter on it! Good Luck!!

A pit trap: cut some cross-slits (triangle pizza slices) in the top of a coffee can with bait inside. Grease the inside of the can. They can get in but not out. It works best if buried in the ground up to the top of the can. According to the source below, Peanut butter is the best bait, followed by oats, nesting materials, chocolate, pretzel (on a string), or combo of any of the above.

Use copper wool to seal up holes. Both mice or shrews can't chew through it. Anything else they'll be able to chew through in a matter of time.

Fill your holes with Insulating Foam Sealant. It's a spray foam that will expand to fill the hole or crack completely and it hardens. They can't bite through it and if they could it would take a long time. You can get it at any walmart or hardware store. Otherwise get mouse traps and put peanut butter on them because they have to gnaw on sticky peanut butter for a while and will definitely get caught.

Yes get some double sided tape (strong)
Lay it down across all the side of the floors.

When the mice come out they will get stuck to the tape

Although they will still be alive at least you can then get rid of them and see them.

Good luck

Give my regards to Micky and Minnie :)

First you have to keep your house clean and not give them anything. Next is to put out traps. There are several kinds of traps available including humane traps if you're into that.

A tiger, lulz :p

OK, joking aside. there are all sorts of traps, and poisons you can get. Also, do what you can to keep food away from the mice.

the best answer would be traps... then you have to think about whether you want to just catch the mouse or kill it. Either way, your local hardware or department store should have them, i've heard peanut butter works better than cheese as bait. Goodluck!
