Besides (in addition to) the 12 steps is there any practical (I know hang in there, I know pray im looking for tactical) advice I can use in my everyday life to avoid a relapse???

avoid the triggers, like the people or areas that your drug is available in. by removing yourself from these triggers you can significantly reduce the relapses. the inner burning for it will remain, and you never truly give it up, but more avoid intake.

not a day goes by when we dont think of the things that we know are not good for us, but day by day we can walk away.

I found that removing myself from the environments and people helped.

Quitting cold turkey is the only way to go through it without any rehab. Just clean your stash out, throw it all away forever and hope you wont fall back on it.

Just stop doing the particular drug you want to kick. It is possible.

Find something to fill the void like a hobby.

one day at a time.. and if you happen to pick it up again .. then as soon as possible try to stop again.. i know that sometimes when we try to stop something it just dont go away over night..
