You never truly forget how to drive, it just needs to come back to you. Any unless somebody regularly changes car they take a while to get used to a car anyway. My partner had a perfect driving record for 2 years driving the same vehicle, I always considered her a competent driver, but as soon as she took my car for a spin she wrapped it round a tree because she simply wasn't prepared for how different it could be.
Maybe you should take a couple of refresher driving lessons to help you get the feel of it again.

Just wait patiently again until you remember how to drive and you bond with it. You waited patiently to learn how to drive, you waited patiently to get a nice car....it's only natural that you must also wait patiently to drive the nice car.

Modern cars are a very different driving experience to ones from 10 years ago. The biggest difference I find is the shape of the windscreen which tends to make outside seem like a picture on a video screen.
Give it a few weeks, you'll get used to it. Concentrate on where you are in relation to what's going on outside rather than the car itself. You can find out what all these strange knobs and levers do later. (There's still one on mine I haven't fathomed out yet!)

Try washing and polishing your new car, then add a few nic-nacs and personal items like new floor mats and danggly smelly things even put a favourite cushion on the parcel shelf.Driving without shoes will help you get the feel of the pedals.get your partner to take you to a big open carpark.like tescos after its closed then let you drive round you'll soon get the hang of it again

Like an old loved pet that gone to a better place,so are the cars/trucks we drive. You'll never have another "your very first car" Spend quality time with your new car .Take it to the movies. After you get to know each other & the time is right ,look under the hood, check the fluid levels.Just remember, you're not the cars first owner.you both need to get to know each other.

Nobody "forgets" how to drive. One pedal makes the car go, the other makes it stop and the big circle in the middle makes the car go left or right. If you are not able to understand that concept then you should not be driving. Driving is very intuitive and if you cannot grasp the concept then maybe a bus pass is a more viable alternative for you.

Remember your abcs', Accelerator on the right, Brake in the middle and Clutch on the left. Or if it's automatic then you'll have no problem remembering, I remember and im not even old enough to drive yet!

I don't know what kind of car you bought, but if it's possible go for at least one lesson from an instructor who uses that type of car.
I know what you mean 'cos it does happen. You ca always change your car I suggest a Fiesta

You'll get it back. Have someone take you out on an old country road and turn you loose and you'll see that ever thing is all right.
