That's what Republicanism gets us. It was Republicans that caused the Great Depression and Democrats that pulled America out of it. That's recorded history that's taught in every public school. so why do we keep electing these Republican fools to the Presidency and to Congress?

You know someone who is homeless so there are many more homeless people out there than before? What kind of s**t is this? If you are concerned take the homeless person you know into your home. I give money to a homeless shelter and I am told that the number of homeless is about the same as 4 years ago.

Do you live in San Diego? Recently a couple of the shelters have closed so there are more of them in public view.

As far as country-wide. If that number has increased, which I don't know if it has, I'd guess it's because of the increased cost of housing, increased cost of having money ("usage" fees levied by banks, utilities, corporations, etc, are going unchecked and quietly milking billions from consumers), the reduction of the middle class coupled with increased immigration making low-cost housing scarce, and population growth.

I don't think it's solely the fault of republicans or democrats, although partially it is (moreso Republicans, after all they've been in power for 6 years). But mostly, it's the fault of the American people an their apathy to the events around them. You can take and take from us and we'll constantly rationalize a reason not to do anything about it because that requires effort and I'd rather be watching news about Justin and Cameron breaking up while I increase my girth and blame it on genetics.

Sick, really.

I live in an area where homelessness, although it is a problem virtually everywhere, is not such a problem that it is easily noticed. There are 744,000 homeless people in this country. It was a problem before the war and it will be a problem after. You pay most of your taxes to the state and local governments, btw. Only Congress can initiate a tax, but you pay your property and sales taxes to benefit your local and state government. Income taxes benefit the feds.

There is more levels of poverty currently in USA That has Not been seen since the great depression! You are right there are more homeless than 70's 80's or 90's i was born in the early 50's! There are several million homeless not less than 1 million. That's would be like the unemployment statistics claiming low single digit #s like less than 5% They only report those with an active claim, which does not reflect the true numbers of people needing jobs or income!!!

It's a sad fact. Some people choose to be homeless because of drugs and alcohol others are homeless because of problems at home, or mental illnesses............But I don't think it's because of Bush taxing us on war.

How old are you? People are homeless usually for 1 of 2 reasons - mental problems (drugs or mental disease) or economic (job loss, bankruptcy, etc.). Taxes have nothing to do with homelessness & our taxes were decreased under President Bush. Remember the whole "rich people tax cut", everyone pays less tax. I am an accountant & I volunteer at 2 homeless shelters every week.

I'm sure Bush is doing his best to reallocate wealth in America to the top 10% but I'm not sure we have more homeless now than we did in the 1930s.

We might have to elect another Republican in 2008 to keep Dubya's programs going long enough to do that.

If you want to make a case of increased taxes under Bush you have to refer to deferred taxes that will be required by Bush's obscene level of deficit spending. By the way, Bush has never put the war on budget so that means the cost is being added onto the national debt. For you and me, that means it's being rolled into the Social Security funding problem. Of course, Dubyas buddies (the most affluent people in America) don't need or care about Social Security Retirement Benefits.

Uhm, your taxes have gone down no matter who you are. Homelessness is a serious problem that has much more to do with societal ills and cultural attitudes than taxes. If you had subjected it was due to our failing educational system, you might have had a point.

If you worked, you would know that Bush cut your taxes.
Ask your teachers.
You were probably just a baby, but there were plenty of homeless during the Clinton Years.
