I have a hearing impairment.
I cannot distinguish a certain range of the human voice. I can hear really high-pitched or very low-pitched sounds, but not the mid-range sounds of over half of the human population.
My right ear-drum (Timpanic Membrane) has repeated scaring, which means I had holes in my ear-drum that healed over and left scar tissue.
Are you familiar with any kind of drum instrument?
Just imagine someone cutting a hole (Even a small one) in the skin covering the drum head. Because of the tension required to make the drum work in the first place, a small cut would leave a gaping hole.
OK: now, without releasing that tension on the drum-head; patch the hole.
It TOTALLY will change the way the drum VIBRATES and TRANSMITS sound.
This is why I have a hearing problem.

Somewhat. I can hear people talk but I can't understand what they say sometimes. I guess I heard too many helicopter rotor blades poping in my ears when I was in the Army.
