What command do I have to type next to c:/ to get my IP address? I've tried ping, but that's serving no help here.

Just type in IPCONFIG

IPCONFIG /ALL also work, and will show you more information.

its ipconfig.

ping is what you use to test your internet connection: it shoots data at a website and then waits to see if the data is returned.

You want ipconfig.

ping only works if you know what ip address you are going for.
