I have an 11 month old who is very small for his age and doesnt walk yet but insists on climbing. I have cought him halfway over his babygate and now hes pulling up on his crib trying to get out. he has no fear and Im afraid hes going to hurt himself. His crib is as low as it can be and i have removed his bumper but I still have a bad feeling that he is going to get over it and fall.

when my daughters were that age they did the SAME THING so I got her 2 matresses. I pooshed her crib up to the wall so one side was against the wall . Then I took the 2 matresses and piled them ontop of each other and pushed it to the open side of matresses. and then I just put some pillows on the matresses. I put a lot of her favorite toys on the matresses and the crib (an even spread) so she can play without being bored. And she usually ended up sleeping on the matresses (good practice) then on a very happy day I went up to my daughter and said "listen crib is goin bye bye we went to the crip and I let her hug and say her goodbies. I sold the crib and put the matresses back in the guest bed room. She was two by then. I baught her a really cool bed (on this website)http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.customplayhouses.com/images/Theme%2520Beds/Minnie%2520Cottage%2520Loft%2520Bed/Minnie%2520Cottage%2520slide.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.customplayhouses.com/Theme%2520Beds/fairytalecottagebed.htm&h=591&w=500&sz=60&hl=en&start=3&tbnid=FEiUdL3K_uDAFM:&tbnh=135&tbnw=114&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dslide%2Bbed%26svnum%3D10%26hl%3Den%26lr%3D%26client%3Dsafari%26rls%3Den%26sa%3DG
these beds are really low priced and kids LOVE THEM!!!!!! you can store toys in there. The slide is a blast for kids. It comes with a lock to lock up the slide and ladder for when kids are sleeping. Its like a crib but for a lifetime (or at least about 11)

My son did this at about that age. We weren't set up yet for a toddler bed, but we had a pack 'n play. There's nothing on the sids but net, so unless he has extraordinary arm strength, it'll be pretty hard to climb out of...he'll be unable to "monkey" his toes like he can on the upright slats of the crib. he slept in that for a few months until we got him a toddler bed with a rail.
If you don't want to do that, you can put no-stick spray or oil on the slats of the crib - that way he won't be able to go anywhere because it'll be slippery.
Good luck!

I was going to suggest lowering the mattress. 15 years ago my twins actually got out of the bed at 7 months. I now have a 6 month old who is about to get her bed dropped as well. She is very active (talks, rolls, climbs). The bed we have converts into a daybed and toddler bed.

You might want to switch out the bed. How is the baby in the play pen? My baby is still trying to figure out where she is when I put her in it. She has so much stuff (swing, saucer, walker, play gym, playpen ahhhhhhhhhh) It's like I need ti have another baby to get my money worth. All the stuff still looks brand new.

my son in basic terms went right into a toddler mattress and he's in basic terms 13 months. he climbed very virtually each and each of ways out of his crib i caught him in basic terms earlier fell on his head. i did 2 days of him having in basic terms a mattress on the floor then right away into his mattress and each thing become sturdy. he loves his mattress and sleeps like an angel. i could propose going for a mattress. he won't be able to stay in his crib continuously!

There are nets you can buy to put over the top. It attaches at each corner and has a zip side like a tent, but is see-through.

A toddler bed is an option, but 11 months seems a bit young to me for that.

Toddler bed time, but for your own peace of mind, place a baby net over the bed. It's easy, very secure, and his little behind will not get hurt.

I would def put him in a toddler bed... you can get them for about 50$ and you can use the same mattress you're using in the crib. It's def safer and you won't have to worry about him falling and hurting himself. good luck

Congratulations, your child has just told you that he's ready to ditch his crib and start sleeping in a toddler bed!

A lot of babies do this. It is almost normal and expected. Just keep a close eye on him.
