Your egg may not have come down completely and then the sperm can still fertilize it. They say if you are going to have sex on your cycle you still need protection.

it all depends on when u hav sex cuz sperm can stay alive for 36 hours so if u have sex the first day there is still a chance u can get pregant ... only sure way to not get pregant is some kind of birth control or better yet no sex at all

You don't, you have to be ovulating which happens before your cycle. The cycle is what cleans you out because you didn't get pregnant and prepares you for the next time you can get pregnant.
