Diapers and/or wipes. The mom will love you forever.

Speaking as a new granny... very useful items for mom & dad are small/medium size bibs with velcro on back - especially if baby spits up a lot - helps keep outfits dry. Lightweight receiving blankets (these are small blankets about 36 inches square) are also good for that, for keeping chill off baby and swaddling. Little caps are good, too. If they are formula feeding that stuff's really expensive and they would probably appreciate a can. A baby photo frame or a nice outfit - perhaps even a 3-6 month or 6-9 month would be nice (they probably received a lot of newborn stuff). Enjoy!

id say diapers and wipes. you can never have too many of them. but just as a suggestion, id say buy the diapers 1 size bigger. like instead of getting a newborn size get a size 1. lots of parents already have more newborn diapers than they can use and never enough of the bigger size. also if you want to get them some thing they can keep for the baby try a ceramic hand print kit. they can use it whenever they want a will always have a memory of their baby being small.

The handiest thing I've gotten since having my baby 4 weeks ago was actually a little rack that holds bottles as they dry, I bought it myself, but it came w/ a bottle brush and is the thing I use the most after bottles, diapers, wipes and formula :D

Receiving blankets (the ones they throw up on). Onsies. Sleepers with feet. Find out what type of bottles the parent uses. Or a cute outfit to go out in.

diapers and wipes... newborns go thru so much of them. But if you're looking for more baby ... like outfit. Sleepers are good... sometimes I would go thru like four in a day w/ spit ups and poos....

i think bonds are a great gift for a baby. if saved for several years, it may double or triple in value. =]
just a suggestion. if you feel its not enough, add a little something extra with it. diapers im sure would be greatly appreciated.
good luck!
