Try the on board microphone on the lap top ... if that works, then the way you set up the other mike is the problem, not the lap top.

(is it a mike for a digital device?- not just an analogue mike?)

If you can hear the other party, you definitely have a sound card, and there is no need to get a new one at this time. My guess is that is a bandwidth problem. Or either you are downloading too much stuff while making the calls or your bandwidth is not enough. Try stopping your downloads while making the calls and see if it improves, I bet it will.

No offence meant right here both - try to be certain a time-honored practitioner. those who precise this second placed unusual issues right down to supernatural causes are VERY weak to disillusionment. continually search for the most rational, logical factors for each little thing first, then and purely then, once those do not suffice, do you should guage decision components. i'm an organization believer in countless the stuff maximum human beings scoff at, yet there somewhat isn't something incorrect in scepticism. See your time-honored practitioner FIRST in case you somewhat are experiencing this stuff. solid success both way!

If you can hear others then you have a sound card already.

Do you have a microphone plugged into your PC? - If so then you need to change the settings - possibly activate the microphone boost.

You will have to find the sound controls for your laptop. Try in control panel. You should be able to find a set which includes mic in volume.

are you sure your mic is in the right hole???
You dont need a sound card if you can hear them and you can hear your puter beep etc.
Try moving the mic to a different hole.
