Yeah. I don't know. The world could have easily survived without zippers.
But they're quite convenient for athletic-wear and tighter-fit clothes, and especially for new synthetic fabrics that just wouldn't seal shut the same without a zipper. You can't, for example, go for a run in a buttoned-up jacket (unless they're snap buttons). You'll probably rip all the buttons off. Windbreakers, for example, wouldn't exactly keep out wind if they were buttoned. And what about blue jeans? No fly? Yeah. No zipper fly would kind of suck.

Alot of loose clothing back in the day when they didn't have zippers. Sometimes it was just an oversized dress with no buttons or zippers. The men wore belts to keep their pants up. Just material and a straight shape.
Arnt' you glad we have zippers and buttons and alot more beautiful clothing that FITS much better.? I know I am*~:)

Just a few ideas
-People who carry bags or suitcases probably lost a lot of stuff, I would look up on what people used to carry their things before zippers were invented.
-Food probably went bad faster b/c there were no zip lock bags etc.
-Jackets took a lot longer to put on b.c of all the buttons, as opposed to the quickness of a zipper.

I was going to say the same thing you did, and just say they just used buttons too, but really I am sure they had it a lot harder, look at those boots ladys wore, now they can make knee high boots and you just have to zip them up, and their dresses, lots of buttons. when I was trying on a wedding dress my mom was freaking out with all the buttons in the back, but they were just decoration with a zipper underneith.
