I'm going to a school in Chicago, but not until I'm 18, so i want to live withing a couple of hours of Chicago, like a small town

Depending on where your school is located you might want to look at towns near the school. There are so many nice suburbs of Chicago telling you Naperville is a popular choice and having your school nowhere near Naperville defeats the purpose.

I've stayed in Joliet many times and have always found quite a bit to do. Always had a great time- my fave "greasy spoon" restuarant is there and the people are all nice.

Joliet is great. It isn't really tiny but it isn't huge. The people are nice and there's stuff to do their. There are parks and there is the realto theater, a very old theater. A lot of places to eat out and stores and mall.

That depends on what school you're going to. Where do you live now? Staumburg is nice.

lake forest or winnetka are very nice
