If someone owed you money and filed bankruptcy against you, you should have received notice from the bankruptcy court. However, it is not always easy to notify people if they have moved. A last known address is acceptable in some cases.
All of the bankruptcy clerks offices now have public access computers to search for the public databases. I believe they can be searched by name, and social security number (social security numbers are private and may be not be searchable any more). You may obtain a copy of the bankruptcy there as well. There will be a fee, probably equal to $1-2 per page and bankrutpcies are often 25-50 pages long, if they still have the case locally. There is an additional retrieval fee if the bankruptcy has been closed and archived, probably somewhere in the neighborhood of $50.
Hope this helps.

If you're owed money by someone filing bankruptcy, you should be on their creditor list and receive notice by mail.
Bankruptcy is done through the Federal court system. You can call the clerk of court for the bankruptcy office in your area. Look in the blue pages of your phone book, the government section. They will likely be able to search by name and tell you if someone is listed. You will probably have to go down to the courthouse to view the actual paperwork. It's free to view there, nominal cost for copies. And they don't like giving change, so bring lots of varied cash amounts, or a checkbook. They're weird like that.
Bankruptcy is public record. So it's not hard to find the information you're looking for.
Here's a link to the US Court's online access. It looks quite cheap. http://www.pacer.uscourts.gov/pacerdesc.html

Well, no one can file "bankruptcy against you" if you mean, call you bankrupt.
If someone owes you money and they delcare bankruptcy, then you should be listed as a creditor and should get info in the mail.
If they declared bankruptcy but did NOT list you as a creditor then they still owe you. However, if you wish, go to the court house in the town or county where you live and see if you're a creditor. If they didn't list you, they can't have their debt to you discharged, so they still owe you. If they DID list you, then you should be getting some paperwork to that effect, and you can show up at their bankruptcy hearing and explain why you should be paid.
Note: They have the option, though not all use it, of filing in federal court, so you'd want to check the fed court in your area as well.

There is a very good website called PACER https://pcl.uscourts.gov/search. You may have to set up an account.
The fees are low. about 10 cents per page of info displayed.
The database goes back years and all you need is the name of the person who you think may have filed bankruptcy.
Then you select which district it was filed in. CA is in the 9th district. There is a map to show you all the districts.

You file bancruptcy against your self. So you should know. I belive the only way to find out is if you are involved. Like if somone filed it and they put you down because they owed you money.
