in general what makes a computer slow
1)Having a stuffed hard drive(for example having 80Gb and using 73 )
2)Having Low RAM
3)Having a Slow Processor
4)Opening Several Applicatians at the same time

The crowded website might take more time to open up than any other website...but here it depends on your Internet connection Speed.

There are tons of things that can cause a computer to become slow. If you are on the internet alot, I would run an anti-spy program. Keyloggers will slow down a computer very quick, you might run virus-scan, delete unwanted files, and defrag your hard drive. How advanced is your system? Do you need more memory?

Most modern (last 3 years) computers are rather fast at most things such as web surfing and email. The factors that affect speed are how many programs you have running in the background (called services or helper applications), how much memory you have and for internet based applications, how fast your internet access is.

If you right click on your task bar and select Task Manager and then click the Processes Tab you will see a list of all of the programs your computer is running right now. The CPU column and the Mem Usage column can tell you how much of your system resources each program is taking. If the list is long (more than 30 or 40 items) your system may seem sluggish. To help make sure you don't have unnecessary programs running try running a virus scanner or ad ware scanner.

You can also try running your disk defragmenter software. Open My Computer and then right click on your C: drive and select Properties. Click the Tools tab and then click the Defragment Now button. A new program will pop up. Select the C: drive and click the Defragment button at the bottom. This will defragment the files on the drive making them faster to access and load.

For Windows XP 512MB of RAM or more will make a system run much better than one with only 256MB of RAM. To check how much RAM you have right click on the My Computer icon on your desktop and select Properties. A window will pop up and at the bottom will be a paragraph about your computer. If there is less than 512 MB of RAM then look into getting some more to speed up your system.

Internet access speed is a big part of how snappy web sites load, but also the web browser you use can make a difference. Many people find that Mozilla Firefox is much faster than Windows Internet Explorer. You can download Firefox from http://www.firefox.com If you are on dial-up then internet access is not going to be fast, however if you are cable or DSL then you can check with your provider for a deal on faster service. Also, some settings in your system can be tweaked to make DSL or Cable faster or optimal for your system. Information on these tweaks is available at http://www.dslreports.com/ One way to tell if a web site is slow versus your system or connection is to go to Yahoo or another site used to servicing millions of people. If it loads slowly then your connection or PC are probably to blame. If it loads fast then the web site you want to load is probably to blame.
