All animals deserve to be treated with respect. Cruelty is not acceptable no matter what the breed of animal, or stereotypical beliefs about that animal.

It mortifies me that some people can honestly live with themselves after saying that pit bull issues can be solved by "hurting" them or even killing them.

Do these people have no shame? Explain your barbaric behavior....and leave an address so teh ASPCA can nail your butt too.

I am absolutely disgusted with this issue. Are you all cavemen or what?

It's not acceptable, unless the dog is dangerous.

I had a pit, I loved her dearly, and she was a good dog.

We treated her great, she wasn't violent, she loved children (They would tug on her ears, shake her head, and she was fine with it.) and only protective of our home. The only time she wanted to attack someone was when they came in, without us answering the door, and she had no clue who she was. (We didn't want this person in our house. She knew you weren't supposed to do that.)

Now, I know someone who actually has a pit, who leaves it outside, it gets no socialization, no one to play with it, and in the end, it IS going to turn. There's no question in my mind, when you treat one badly, they can, and will turn on you. If you hit it, you're telling it violence is okay, it's well documented.

It's the owners fault, not the pits. The people who have dogs who attack other people, need to be banned from having pets.

Domesticated animal attacks don't just happen for no reason. They happen because the animal wasnt' treated like it needed to be.

But, if no one can take the time to train them, and try to reform them, or the dog is too untame for them to do so, sometimes it -is- best for them to be put down. I love animals, but, honestly, can you see anyone wanting to try to train something that is acting viciously towards them?

I didn't get another pit after mine died because of the stigma, there were SO many places we couldn't take her, and she was one of the best dogs I've ever had. But everyone was afraid of her. Information, and knowledge is the key, not this BS.

I believe the negative comments that you often hear about pitbulls are from people that fear them. They have never taken the time to learn about them.

I am currently reading "Lend me an Ear" which is about Hearing Dogs. The writer, Martha Hoffman, made an interesting comment I would like to share with everyone. She was discussing the reasons for selecting certain dogs for Hearing Dogs over others and she made a comment about the dogs natural instinct which I had never really thought about it in the terms that she described. She brought up wolves as well as dogs hear higher pitches from certain and their instincts regard this as prey. I haven't heard any little boys being killed by dogs, but I have heard about the little girls. Little girls typically let out high shrills when playing regardless whether or not they are alone. I think it would be interesting to take ALL the child deaths caused by dogs (ALL dogs, not just the pits) and find out whether or not, these children let out a high shrill just prior to being killed by the dogs.

If the above were found to be true, then training dogs not to respond to high shrills aggressively and also to teach children not to make high shrills around the dogs.

Anyone that plans to become an animal psychologist may want to do this as their doctorate project.

I really have an pretty demanding time believing the canines although a baby turned right into a chew toy. canines are spectacular at studying human beings. better than any species studied- dolphins, chimps, in spite of. A canines is acquainted with the adaptation between a man or woman and the different merchandise- residing or not. I agree that maximum pits do not kill that way, yet all of us understand not something about this pit. maximum canines received't attack babies, both. Who is acquainted with what this canines changed into questioning, yet in a legal sense, the canines changed into the proximate reason behind the shortcoming of existence. loads of issues might want to be suggested about the mummy (and are being suggested), however the canines is the reason the baby died. that is why the propaganda that "all canines might want to be rehabilitated" and "there aren't any risky canines, purely negligent human beings" are risky. definite, the mummy changed into negligent, yet a canines in good structure for human society can not kill an toddler in spite of how negligent the owner. human beings can infrequently be blamed for going to the safeguard and adopting a pit blend of indeterminate foundation and bringing it homestead to their relatives to stay side with information from side with an toddler. you spot each and every educate on animal planet praising the virtues of adopting, how pits basically have a foul rap, how they are commonly a savior with information from rehabilitating the undesirable, sweet creatures. it is ridiculous. i don't have little ones, so I really have sense smooth taking a huge gamble with safeguard canines. when I really have little ones, my canines will be previous and educated, and any new canines will come from a breeder who I trust and appreciate.

Before you go making sweeping statements you may want to research outside the narrow view you seem to have of the world.
Some dogs, such as pit bulls have been shown to have a tendancy towards violence against humans, especially children. I am assuming you do not have children. if you ever do I feel sorry for them. The natural instinct of any animal, even humans, is to protect their young.
I am not condoning violence towards animals. If pitbulls are treated badly it proves to them that violence is acceptable. Some dogs, most often dogs with a tendancy towards violence, also respond less to training after becoming violent. in this case would you feel safe living near such a dog? very few people would, and as such the easiest option is to have the dog put down. however dogs are individuals, and should be treated as such. therefore if you have a pit bull who has proved to be sweet-natured that dog should not be treated in the same way as a pit bull with a history of violence.
I agree that cruelty is not acceptable, however euthanasia is justified in some cases, where the dog cannot be trained, or trusted.

Most of us do not want something running around our town that can rip our faces off. That is why we have killed all the wolves, coyotes and don't let gators wonder though Wal-Mart. Its just human nature to want to feel safe.

Pitt bulls have been breed to be fighting dogs. I do not think they should be killed but I do think that people that have them should have special licenses to have them and not be permitted to have them in homes. Just in the way that people that want to have alligators or lions have to have special permits. Most people do not understand the special needs of pit bulls and do not raise them right.

I treat lions with respect( pit bulls have the mouth strength of a lion) but would be ticked if my neighbors had one. Some things just do not belong in certain places.

The negative comments on pitbulls are from the severely uneducated (I like to call them "bubba's"). Like the tabloids declaring a picture of the Virgin Mary in a pile of cow dung, they believe everything they read and like the ditzy cheerleader who has been told the more lip gloss the louder she will be heard, these people will believe anything told to them. Its almost comical......almost..........

I do not appreciate you assuming everyone but you is wrong in their beliefs.

I do believe that they have rights and don't deserve to be cruelly treated.

Unfortunatly, some pitbulls are raised to be violent, by some idiots, and those pitbulls need to be put down before they kill someone.

Pitbulls can make good pets, they just need to oppurtunity

i own pits and they are the most loving dog i have ever owned. most people don't understand the breed because they used to be and still are raised to be mean fight dogs so they earned a bad reputation, its not the dogs fault how they are raised. mine are raised with love and discipline and are very friendly and loving. its the people who beat, starve, and raise them to be mean are the ones who need to be dealt with but unfortunately its the dog who pays the price.

This Q. is absurd!
PETA would agree!
You definitely are either reading material written by opinionated people that are clueless and have issues(mental). Or, old and debunked myths that are out dated.

PS What's wrong with cavemen!
