Have them get you a pay as you go phone that way you can "learn" about minutes and overages, roaming and all that great stuff. Also, you won't be tied down to a contract if you go with someone like Virgin Mobile, and you get to decide how much money you spend or don't spend a week, or month. Also, your phone won't let you go into a negative balance either so you don't have to pay for overages because you can't have them :-)

Worked for me!

Work out some kind of deal where you help out around the house or make dinner once a week or something where they can see that you are responsible. What they don't want is nagging and complaining and you acting like a 5 year old. Show them that you are mature enough to handle a cell phone.

Here are a few tips:
-act responsible
-offer to help pay the cost/all the cost
-ask what is a good age
-don't whine or ask all the time
-gain your parents' trust
If you do these things, it will help a lot to get a cell phone. Once your parents know you are responsible and they trust you, you can use persuasion to help with the rest. Good luck!

Tell your parents that these are dangerous times. It's important that everyone have a cell phone in case of emergencies!!!

If you are too young to get one yourself, you are too young to have one. Also, what is the reasoning your parents gave you. Perhaps they just don't feel that they can afford it. In which case, you should understand and move on.
