i mean i was reading this magazine of people who won a competition to win a vip weekend to parties etc, and got makeovers and loads of pictures taken, and given really nice clothes, and really they were just chosen because they were pretty anyway, (i know they dont always party like that but..) they also had to have an outgoing personality and a sense of style. i think that some of those magazines just make teenagers more outgoing and it is hard to keep up and 'u have to have a sense of style to be popular' its stupid. does anyone else agree?
p.s. i dont mean 2 be horrible to people who party but im just complaining about the magazines :)

Alicat, I'm not sure what your question is, exactly, but yes, these magazines do annoy me. What they deal with is not real life, the people in them don't look happy, they look a bit desperate, frankly. To be popular with people who matter, you have to have a good sense of yourself, of who you are, and part of that means developing your own style.

But mainly, it's about being yourself and taking an interest in other people (everyone likes being with someone who expresses and interest in them, instead of going on about themselves all the time, don't they) Far as I can see, in magazine interviews celebs and sub-celebs talk endlessly about themselves, and it's not interesting, is it ?

Believe me, love, it's all emptiness. I bet you're pretty and popular, you don't need to be in a magazine or have a makeover.

No, not at all but I'm 35. My teenage daughter may have a different opinion though.
The magazines have a lot to answer for, especially in the UK.
You see every front cover dictating that to be successful in life, you need to be ultra thin, with up to the minute fashions, go to the right parties, eat at some extortionate restaurant & the icing on the cake - a footballer boyfriend/husband or to have at least slept with one, sold your story & become famous for doing just that!
It is a weird world we live in now. You're a nobody until you've got somewhere by being attractive,a size 0, slept with some famous bloke , appeared on Big Brother, been in a newspaper selling stories of sordid sex tales etc...
It's not a goal in life I'd like to achieve.
My daughter will browse through the magazines & feel fed up afterwards. She's decide afterwards that she's ugly & she's not, fat - & takes a size 8, needs to try some bloody celebrity diet cos so & so says you must try it - she's just under 8 stone, the list of the faults she thinks she has is endless & HEAT magazine is one of the culprits who make her feel like this.
I'm just glad Mr & Mrs Beckham are buggering off to the USA, as I feel she's a main contender in the UK for teenage girls feeling that they're too fat, ugly, unfashionable etc...
When I was a teenage, we had Jackie, Just 17 & I can honestly say I never felt the same way ever.

I totally agree. It seems everything in life you have to be popular, or be like the "in-crowd" and if not then kiss people's butts and that's the only way to get to the top. What ever happend to being happy as you are? What ever happend to who works the best gets the best paycheck? I'm with you...I agree about the magazines too.

I agree with you on the magazine case and a lot of it is airbrushing but give me trinny and susannah anyday who take normal people who want to feel good about themselves and dress them in affordable high street clothes and 95 percent of the time give them a long term ego boost.

Those magazines don't do much good at all. They cause women to make themselves ill by dieting too much and becoming too thin. Also they make men think they need a supermodel girlfriend and feel depressed because they can't get one. I agree totally these magazines portray a lifestyle we should not emulate.

They are probably dull and dreary and not liked much anyway. Just be yourself. Everyone prefers an individual to some plastic airbrushed bimbo and they probably feel crap sometimes too.And as far as being one of the 'In Crowd'. Why not be a leader instead of a follower. Thats what I say

If it makes you feel any better, a significant portion of what they look like is airbrushed, and they only show the goodtimes they are having. Also, if you heard Paris Hilton talking you would be glad you are you.

yes i agree. i am a teenage girl and whenever i look at teenpeople, or cosmogirl or any other magazine, they show you the lives of the rich and how pretty they are and how to be popular. it does bug me. b/c i have a friend that cares a lot wat people think, and like it bugs me b/c u no wat i care but not like i let it change how i act. i wish they would put some ugly , well not to be mean, but like have them "win the trips" ect.
