of course.
the worst is when you think someone is really cool
and then they turn out to be haters, haters of gays, or racists, or whatever. It's a real bummer. It's quite hard to be friends (for me) with someone like that.

As a matter of fact, yes. I went out before Christmas with a bunch of friends, 2 of which are sisters. The 2 sisters ended up getting into an argument over something that happened in one of the bars. The one sister (we'll call her sisterX) was completely beligerent and started punching and scratching her sister (sisterY). I've known both of the girls for at least 10 years and sisterX has always been the "wild" one, getting drunk and out of control on several occasions. We had always chalked it up to the moment, but after seeing the way things went down this particular night, I absolutely refuse to do anything social with sisterX if it's going to involve her drinking. I pretty much told her this and informed her that I think she needs some sort of professional help regarding her drinking and anger problems. Hopefully she takes the advice!

Yes, and it changes the relationship with that friend forever. Even if you have forgiven them ( even though they didn't say they were sorry) it is still there in the back of your mind. Not in a grudge way just in a nagging painful, hurt way.

At one place that I worked, there was this girl that for some reason I couldn't stand, just maybe one of those wrong first impression instances. For about two months she grated on my nerves, then one day she helped a favorite customer of mine load her groceries into her car, and for some reason that changeds my whole attitude about her. We became friends, and still are to this day.
