Can someone explain this experiment to me?

This is not an "experiment" THis is a really bad idea. There are lots of household chemicals that can cause explosions or create poisonous gases. You would be a real bonehead if you started playing around with this stuff. You could blind yourself, or cause severe burns or scars, or even kill yourself, not to mentions set your house on fire or poison your family.

If you want to learn about this, take a course on chemistry in school. Then you will learn how to handle chemicals safely. Maybe you will even be a chemist someday, and when you are you will be REALLY glad that you never fooled around trying to make a bomb,

No. This is a non-explosive mixture.

Alcohol is probably more of an explosive hazard by itself than when mixed with Chlorine bleach (NaClO).

Also in order to get alcohol to detonate you need to aerosolize it so that it is well mixed with the oxygen in the air and this is much more difficult than you may think.

---- EDIT ----

There are a few things that you can mix with bleach that will cause a chemical reaction that if tightly contained will pressurize the container until it bursts. If this is what you are talking about, that isn't a bomb, and alcohol isn't the right chemical to mix with it, but ammonia will do.

Do NOT mix chlorine bleach and ammonia, the fumes it puts out chloramine, and nitrogen trichloride. Both of these are pretty nasty and can cause severe brain and lung damage if inhaled.

Bleach Bomb

I knew a guy in high school that was obsessed with chlorine bombs. He always brought them to the bus stop; he would take 2 liquids (one was chlorine bleach - I don't know what the other was) and mix them together in a plastic or glass bottle. Then he would shake it and throw it in an empty grass lot next to the bus stop. After about 20 seconds, it would explode and he would warn us to keep away from the smoky discharge.

One day he was shaking the bottle and it blew up in his hand. He lost 3 fingers and it was a nasty sight. I would advise you to stay away from this "experiment".

If you mix chlorine with the household cleaner comet it creates what is essentially nerve gas. There have been many deaths from people cleaning their bath tiles with bleach then going over it with commet and if they have the curtain on the bath closed the fumes overwhelm them and they die. Do not try mixing bleach with anything that is not water or your cloths, ever. Chlorine bombs are more dangerous than hand grenades.

Don't mix chlorine bleach with *anything* except as recommended in the label. While there might be a risk of explosion, there is a much greater risk of releasing highly toxic chlorine gas.
