Raider fan for 27 years. Personally, don't necessarily think that Russell should be a lock. Yes, they need a quarterback badly, but what good will he be without a line to block or, even more so, a running back that actually takes pressure off of the passing game. I know that Lamont Jordan was hurt for a little bit at the end of the year. Does not seem to be serious enough to jeopardize him coming back next year, but not sure he is the answer. Too heavy, too slow. Needs to lose serious weight before I would consider him to be the back to pull the Raiders from the depths of offensive hell. Andrew Walter is the current back-up, which could change quickly considering that Aaron Brooks is a complete bust(no surprise there--see history). If Walter gets more time to throw, this offense could surprise many people. In short, I feel that either Russell or running stud Adrian Petersen should be on the short list. First instinct though is to pick up Charles Johnson, only problem with that is that receivers seem to be curse of the team right now. How's this for prognostication? Trade Moss for picks, take Petersen or Johnson, pickup very good quarterback later in round or early second, say Brohm from Louisville, then we get best of both worlds. Get rid of Moss, get great offensive weapon in return(one that wants to play), and still feel very comfortable with rookie QB who could solidify future if Walter busts this year. Only other issue would be to decide if Porter really wants to play or not. If not, definitely could get even more to solidify weaknesses of team like that O-line or the defensive front. I think this scenario really is the best way to go. Oh yeah, let's not sleep on the fact the Jarrett declared as well, so he should go into mix with Johnson and Petersen.

I hope Russell get to go with a team that suits his ability and with a good coaching staff, not trying to take anything from the Raiders, but they may hirer a coach that is not suited for the Raiders type of legacy, John Gruden was the last best coach and you can see he's have a hard time trying to make a Tampa Raiders team, I hope you guys get a good coach, I'm a Saints Fan and my west coast team is the Raiders, so if the hirer a good coach it would be a good place for Russel

The raiders should trade picks with the browns and pick up extra picks. I have read somewhere that Brady Quinn, who is from Ohio, would like to play for them. The raiders along with all other teams will NOT take Troy Smith in the first round let alone the #1 pick. Mel Kiper said he is most likely a 3rd-5th round pick. If they do keep the first pick it sounds like Russell or WR Calvin Johnson

I thin kthe Raiders need a bit of every position...
They could draft the OT from Wisconsin....
Brady Quinn or Jamarcus Russel ( You saw what Tro boy can do with no blocking, painful eh?)....
AP would be a good pick...
Or hey, get someone who WILL be good in the pros and get Calvin Johnson, that way there's someone to throw to...
Anyone drafted in the top 5 will probably end up being good for their teams... except for the person my Cleveland Clowns draft, they're ALWAYS horrible.

It will probably be Russell. Unfortunately, he'll have no O-line and no receivers to throw to because Porter will be gone and Moss doesn't like to give effort. Good luck, young man!

I think they should:
PICK up the remote, turn to ESPN Classic, and watch the games from when John Madden coached them. Do that all season, repeat.
