I had my car running to start the defrost and it started overheating. I tried to turn it off but it started jumping. When I opened the hood, it spewed antifreeze everywhere. The guys who were helping me, said it was the radiator hose. Are they right? It was a 1985 chevy celebrity. and If it is the radiator hose, is it driveable to my house (about 5 miles)

Could be the thermostat, I've had that happen. I wouldn't drive it, you don't want to take a chance on it over heating and ruining your motor.

With the burst radiator hose, the engine will overheat almost immediately. Probably, that already had happened but if you are lucky - replace the hose on the spot, it's no biggie. Keep in mind that if the cooling system is empty, temp gauge may not show overheat, especially if it's located in the radiator tank. But engine damage will still occur.

You'll overheat in way less than 5 miles. You need to at least patch it and fill it with water to get home and replace all the hoses, not just the busted one.

Your car could over heat damaging the engine. Just fix it now. Houses cost like 10 to 25 dollars plus the cost of the anitfreeze needed to fill the system up.

Could be the hose, but there is no way of me being sure without looking. If it is cold, you should be able to get it home if it is a quick trip. No stop and go traffic, no idling for long periods. Go straight home.

Could also be your thermostat. Have it taken out and set in boiling water or direct applied heat to see if the valve moves off the housing seat.

SOUNDS LIKE A BAD THERMOSTAT OR POSSIBLY HOSES. BOTH ARE PRETTY CHEAP. IF YOU ONLY DRIVE IT 5 MILES IT WILL BE OK TO DRIVE IT HOME. DONT DRIVE IT HARD AND TURN IT OFF WHEN YOU GET IT HOME.
