I heard that some people thought she should have given her money to Americans. She has already tried that and found the ones she donated to did not appreciate it nor did they use it to better themselves, they bought shoes and vid games. Some say she should have given to more than blacks but when I saw the school there were some white girls there as well as blacks. Oprah said it is a school for poor girls who otherwise would not have the opportunity to attend a good school if they even got to go at all. Wouldn't it be a wonderful world if more people were like Oprah?

We have no problem how she spends her money. None at all. Rather, the point is, we don't like how she got it in the first place. This she did through shameless self-promotion, using everyone she has ever come into contact with for her own ends, and, above all, for promoting the shallowness of celebrity that does so much damage to all of us.
Plus, why on Earth do we need to know what she has done with her money? If she means good by it, let her keep it to herself. PLUS, Detroit could do with a school like that...why not put it there? Instead, her pictures all over proves just what a narcissistic person she is.

The pundits that I have heard express negative comments about Oprah say that she is constantly criticizing American eductaion and system so she could have spent the money here and invested int he education of American children.
Personnaly I don't care how she spends her money. She is late joining the "Save Africa" bandwagon but the amount of money suggests a real concern, not just a token publicity stunt.

People have dislikes about anything a celebrity does, it is none of our business.
She is helping young girls of South Africa get an education and get with the century.
Men still dominate the region, War and aids and genocide.
At least someone is helping make a difference in Africa, after genocides and civil wars, someone is getting an education and civilized.

first off i could care less what she spends her money on but my best guess would be that there are pleanty of schools here in america that are in serious trouble ,but just like our govenroment the celebrities don't really care what happens here they just wanna look good in the eyes of the world, if they did care maybe they'd start adopting the crack, and abonded babies that we have here in america that grow up in the foster care system instead of going over seas, maybe she should have started to rebuild some of the schools in new orleans first seeing as there crumbling and full of mold from katrina ....maybe thats why her new school in africa pissed off so many people just a thought...

They're mad because they felt that Oprah could have put her money to what they would consider to be a much better alternative, meaning that she should've put some of that money to use in the U.S.
I personally think that it's her own damn money so she can do whatever the hell she wants with it.

Because she spent a ridiculous amount of money having a celebrity party to kick off the event when she could have used that money to enroll more students.
She was looking for publicity to make her look better.
If she really wanted to help, she would have just done it.

From what I can understand from news reports, she is promoting segregation in the school and only allow black kids to attend the school. There was a whole report on it but I don't really remember what was said.

It's just that people are questioning that why she didn't put it in America, because some people feel that it should be in the USA. She did an amazing thing though.
