an engagement ring is a symbol of your relationship and the marriage to come. therefore, my take on it is to get the best quality ring you can afford. would you want a cubic...basically a fake stone to represent your relationship...all flash and fake? or would you rather have something that is real and valuable?

Diamonds themselves are not particularly rare. Not more-so than rubies or emeralds. Their inflated price is carefully controlled by the diamon cartel (deBeers).

The best and easiest way to tell the difference between a Cubic Zircon and a Diamond is, if you look under a magnifying device, you will find that diamonds have flaws and slight coloration. Cubic zirconia's are perfect.

Women all want diamonds, not because of their look or beauty, but because of their (perceived) value. The fact that a guy was willing to spend money on them.

FWIW- I spent an obscene amount of money on an amazing ring for my wife. She loves it, probably because I spent the cash. Just part of life.

Small to medium real diamond. Why have something huge and fake when you can have something that is small but genuine? Besides, most people can tell the difference between a CZ and a real diamond. They just don't sparkle the same.

Um, no. Diamonds are the most enormous and stupidest waste of money on the whole earth. Not to mention they are mined by poor Africans who never see a dime of that profit and have in the past been traded by African militants to buy weapons and kill people. Just what I was hoping my diamond would be used for!

I refuse to own any gem. If and when I get married, I'll wear a plain band.

P.S. Just because the gem isn't a diamond doesn't make it a crappier symbol of your relationship. That's like saying a U.S. flag is only a U.S. flag if it's a certain size and you pay too much for it; otherwise, it just doesn't mean the same thing and whoever wants to can go ahead and burn it. Ridiculous.

The whole idea of spending one's time and money on a diamond just amazes and appalls me. Why don't you donate the money you save by _not_ buying a diamond to a cause that's close to your and your fiancee's heart? Why don't you put it toward the honeymoon and travel? Put it in a savings account. Use it to buy nice editions of your favorite books to pass on to your children that will mean ten times more than a silly finger decoration.

I would rather have the real thing but not because its real because it would be small, i hate big rings. Everyone different, its totally up to you. If its for an engagement ring or something like that, no matter what it is it will mean a lot to you. If you are buying it for someone or someone is buying it for you just remember if you don't have the money its kewl, when you do have the money to get the real thing then do it later.

Real. Those huge CZ's don't fool anyone that knows diamonds, and they have very little resale value. A good diamond, even if it's smaller, has an unmistakable fire. And hey, I'm all real, why shouldn't my engagement ring be the same?

Small to medium real diamond. I'd actually like a small diamond of the highest quality best of all.

A .25 carat near-flawless diamond will light up a room more than a 1.5 carat CZ

Real thing, if you base your marriage on a fake rock, what else is lacking? Get the CZ necklace or bracelet as an anniversary gift or something, but the ring needs to be real.

I wouldn't want a diamond, do some research on the treatment and work environment of the Africans that are used to mine the diamond, then ask yourself is a real diamond worth the life of another human?

I'm not a lady, but unless you're allergic to diamonds, I'd steer clear of the CZ. If your fiancee cannot afford the size ring you want, then pitch in and help him buy it!
