Bert - Either you're a crotchety 57 year-old who thinks everything was better in the old days (read: the 1970s) or (more likely) you're 13 and just discovered classic rock and were blown away.

If you are 13, don't worry, this is a just a phase everyone (well, guys at least) goes through. As far was finding bands that sound like those you like around today:

Wolfmother (previously mentioned)
Raconteurs
Queens of the Stone Age
The Strokes
The Killers
The Hold Steady

Most of these are rock bands that are solidly melodic and guitar centered. Once you've tried these, move on to more modern emo style bands:

AFI
My Chemical Romance
Fall Out Boy
Yeah Yeah Yeahs

Keep listening until you get it. Good luck!

Incubus, Cursive, Modest Mouse, Karate, Wolfmother, Shinedown, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Mars Volta, The Killers, The White Stripes...

they aren't necessarily new bands, but they're great.

I know what you mean! I have been listening to Smashing Pumpkins again, The Fray, Snow Patrol, etc. I dont think there will be anything as awesome as Floyd, Steve Miller, The Stones, Bob Dylan, The Dead, Clapton, etc. You just need to evolve a little I guess. Its hard, but you'll get through it. haha

If you like a lot of classic rock then Buck Cherry is a great band with that traditional rock and roll feel. They have a new album. I personally am into John Mayer, David Ryan Harris, Marc Broussard, Jason Mraz. Marc Broussard is a little bit of counrty, little bit of rock and roll, and flood of SOUL!!! He rocks!! Oh, and check out Josh Houg and Ernie Halter. They are great too. I just saw them at the House of Blues in New Orleans and they kicked butt.

If you like quality bands (as do I) like the ones posted above, then no...there isn't any good music. The better question to ask is what will the oldies stations be playing in 30 years? Blink 182? LOL!!!

nope.. new bands rarely have any lead guitar anymore- it's all catchy rhythm parts, because that's what sells. no one will dare to takes the risks that Led Zeppelin did. i think the best new bands are all metal, although i have not listened to them. I listen to LED ZEPPELIN, Metallica, AC/DC, and Guns N' Roses. in fact, i'm listening to Led Zeppelin II right now

If you hate so many different genres of music, you'll never find anything to listen to. Open your mind.
