Matthew - we already pay road tax to use our vehicles and the money is supposed to be used to maintain the roads etc. Now they want to tax us for every mile we travel along the roads that we pay to build and maintain!

Not only do we have road tax, the license and insurance, you pay to use every mile when you buy fuel, both fuel duty and VAT so there is no justification to add a further tax for road users. Quite apart from the above, there is a serious question about personal freedom. At the moment we have freedom of association and you can drive to a private meeting. This policy will require each car to have a device fitted(which you will pay for) so you can be charged, this device will be an electronic tag which means the authorities will be able to trace where ever you are. Great if you believe we need to become a police state and that theft of fancy cars is the most serious crime we need to tackle.

I am not from the UK, but maybe I can get some info on this. Is this like a toll or do you have to report how many miles you drove on a given year to be taxed per mile? I am not sure if this is true in the UK, but here in the US I would be opposed to such a tax as we already pay a tax that is supposed to be earmarked for transportation and highways, the gas tax.

Thank goodness I don't live in the UK. This is why the USA was founded. You guys pay way too many taxes.

yes i have this is the 5th posted question on this now which i think is a very good thing good work.
this for me is not just about the tax the surveilance part is alot more important of an issue but luckily when it becomes about money people get involved.
