I have 2 Wireless Internet Video cameras. On Wednesday, I purchased a 4 litre Milk from the Canadian Tire gas station on 64th Ave. N.E. Calgary and I stuck a note stating that it belongs to Mark.
And it hasn't been opened by me.
On Thursday morning, I came and found out that someone had opened it.
I had talked to the landlady concerning this issue as she is the owner of this house.
The land lady said that there has to be some proof in order to catch the person.
Now, I am the main renter of this house and she gave me full authority of doing whatever there needs to be done.
I have a black shelf in the kitchen and I had put a camera facing the fridge to monitor the situation. The landlady thinks that this should catch the person. Is that Illegal?

I believe that the owner of a house can put up any cameras within common areas that they wish: just not within areas that have been rented to others.

However, you may want to be cautious with wireless cameras: the signals of wireless cameras can be picked up by people outside the house & used to determine if anyone is home, or simply to snoop. (That advice was given to me when we were considering getting wireless video baby monitors. We opted for audio monitors instead for that reason.)

It's not illegal to place a camera in an area that a person would not expect to find privacy. Now if you put it in the bathroom - you might get into a gray area. This is why you will not see store camera's in bathrooms or dressing areas.

Putting hidden cameras in your own house is legal because when someone enters your place they made a choice of breaking in and stealing. The video would be good in small claims court or with the police.

someone drinking your milk is theft, no matter what the value. if you suspect theft, you're well within your rights to put up a camera to catch the suspect, although your landlady may need to make it clear to all residents that she reserves the right to put up cameras at any time.(obviously not in a bathroom etc.)

YOU need to call a mental health expert and ask him what he recommends, (LOL), becuase I could only wish that my adversities in life are as simple as someone taking milk from me and anyone who answers this question sensibly with out should actually become this guys roommate , your on the same brain wave or lack thereof, "GOT MILK"

it may not be illegal but it sure would be creepy for you to do that. Honestly don't you have other things to worry about other than who is drinking your milk? If it really is such an issue get a small refridgerator and put it in your room for only your stuff.

I don't think it's illegal since a lot of people use camaras in their homes but you are making to much of a big deal about something as small as milk.

I can't say for certain in your locality, but...

As far as I know, in most American states it's totally fine to make secret recordings in any room of your house except for the bedroom and the bathroom.

Put some liquid laxative in the milk and see who goes running for the toilet!
