Mmmm, try not paying your taxes or working for a while. No country is free, there are degrees of freedom to be had in different respects. In some respects the US has the least degree of freedom compared to many countries: try getting served under 21!
Civilisation is a cultural definition, head hunting tribes in New Guinea might describe a person who does not burp correctly after eating an opponents brain as uncivilised, others might find the use of z's when s's are required for English/English to be uncivilised, neither would be incorrect.

Not any more so than the other countries. As least we don't gas our citizens and use women and children as shields.
All of us have a good life and our worst problem is being over weight and the same cannot be said for most of the world.
The political leaders eat but allow their citizens to starve to death.
If it wasn't for United States hand outs most of the third world countries would starve. Is that our fault or the fault of its leaders.
Many citizens of the United States builds orphanges and hospitals and feed the starving in other countries.
Right now many young men are dying to keep two Islamic extremists from killing each other over religion.
So I think they are pretty civilized compared to the other countries.

u.s. has some real problems but not nearly as bad as ALL nutzoid countries in the middle east.
