I have a large and lovely black velvet shawl (v. expensive) with a decorative edge followed by a long fringe. Fringe is 4 inches long. Some how, some where, a white piece of chewed gum attached itself to a bit of the fringe. Disgusting. It is really mashed in there. I do not want to cut it off, similarly as you would not choose to cut your hair.

Please, any suggestions??

Rub area with ice, then scrape off with dull blade. Sponge with dry cleaning solvent; allow to air dry. Wash in detergent and hottest water safe for fabric.

Try egg white that's said to remove chewing gum from anything. Rub the egg white on the gum and it will remove it from cloth, hair or hands without leaving a spot.

Chewing gum may be removed from different materials by soaking them in turpentine.

There are 2 forms of prayer shawls and that they are meant to be utilized by each Jewish "male" baby and grownup . there is the Tallit katan the small prayer scarf that a Jewish "male" wears as an undergarment in any respect circumstances. the different, Tallit gadol the great prayer scarf is used specificly at prayers and is seen to all, simply by fact of this that's worn over the clothing. They incorporate 4 corners with fringes at each corner that are talked approximately as tzitzit initially they have been to incorporate a string of blue at each corner yet some rabbi's debate wether or to not use a blue string simply by fact the animal or insect which some argue it exchange right into a fish and a few a snail used to make the colour blue of the dye for the string grew to become extinct. even although, these days a rabbi has reported that this dye has been modern-day in a snail. climate or not there'll ever be a unified rabbinical settlement to this subject remember remains to be seen simply by fact quantity a million this dye straight away runs in one wash, and in case you wash it a pair of circumstances greater the dye fades away. So simply by this, some rabbi's disagree that it is the main appropriate animal for the dye. The gemetria for tzitzit is 613 which provides as much as the type of mitzvot given to each Jew.

Try holding an ice cube on the gum until it hardens then you can pick it off. If that doesn't work take it to the cleaners where they have solvents to remove gum. I hope this helps you. Good luck!.
