I've seen many people make comparisons about how "hitler did not do anything to the u.s. either", and the response, "we didn't get in the war until japan bombed us"
Do people not realize that we were involved in the war before Japan bombed pearl harbor?
The US was aiding the british navy in secret. The japanese bombed the US in retaliation for this.
So technically, we did get involved before pearl harbor, and Hitler did not attack the U.S.
could you ignorant people stop correcting someone when they say, "hitler never attacked us either", because it is in fact, technically correct.

I know where your going with this. You say Hitler never attacked us EITHER. HMMMM Well, Iraq did attacked us on September 11,2001 and many other times. They shot one of our planes down in the northern no-fly zone, just a short time before the towers fell. If we had never took out Saddam, guess who would probably have nukes now? A guy that has invaded two countries, fired missiles at Isreal, and fundded terrisom with the Pallistinions. God bless The Greatest Generation and President George Bush.

You are displaying some ignorance of your own while it's true that the US was fighting German before the Either country declared war it should be noted that the US while sympathetic to the UK was more interested in defending it's shipping from German U-boat attack. The Germans were shooting at any ship in the Atlantic and the US response to this was very restrained as the US defended it's own waters in the western Atlantic. The reason for the Japanese attack was that we had put an Embargo on metal and oil going to japan at the time we were the main supplier of these materials to Japan. The reason for the embargo was Japans aggression in China and the Chinese sinking of the gunboat USS Panay. The Japanese decided the best way to grow their empire was to attack and take over all the foreign holdings in the pacific this would give them the materials they would need to be self sufficient. This was Japans motive for going to war not to avenge the Germans.

Actually, the U.S. was trying to keep trade with Europe open, not aid Britain. The U.S. wanted to avoid foreign entanglements following WWI, hence why our involvement in the League of Nations was vetoed. The Japanese bombing Pearl Harbor prompted our involvement. Germany also attacked U.S. ships in European waters too. Although it was a smaller scale, yes, technically, Germany attacked U.S. interests. That is in virtually every textbook on foreign affairs or foreign policy.

The Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor to neutralize the Pacific Fleet, so they could go after the natural resources in Southeast Asia. Their "alliance" with Germany was only because they shared common opponents: England and the USA

It is rare that we agree my respected but often opposite viewed friend, but you are 100% correct, we were steered towards war, aided England as much as we could , and when the Japs did attack us we consentrated on Germany! Was it England, FDR, or both doing the steering? We cut off Japan's oil, yet supplied the English

WWII did not start when the Germans invaded Poland. It began two years earlier, when the Japanese invaded Manchuria. It is the Europeans, who think they are the world, who are fixated on 9/1/39.

Wow really? Thanks for the history lesson that I didn't need. And by the way, the Japanese also attacked us, because amoung other things FDR deliberartely cut off there oil supply.
