the galaxy's paying 50 mil for him, the rest are endorsements. I think he's worth it in the long run, because his jerseys sell out every single year all around the world

I think it is an extremely high stakes bet for the league. He should still be good enough to dominate the MLS, but whether it will be enough to raise the media profile of the sport in the US is anyone's guess. Certainly he has already done so in the short term--he's on the front page of the LA Times, NY Post and probably lots of other places I didn't look--and the deal has attract international attention for US professional soccer. But if Pele and George Best weren't enough to compete with the NFL and MLB, I'm not sure Beckham will be. The dynamics have changed a bit in the US since the '70s, more of us grew up playing the game and we have more Latin Americans now. Trouble is, I think that demographic is already the base of the league and I don't know how much more this will grow it.

No, he is not worth that kind of money. He's not even a very good player anymore. All that matters to him and his snobbish wife is that they are in the spotlight all the time and get all the money they want. Now they are going to be in Hollywood. The reason he didn't make it in Madrid is because there were more superstars on the team. Not just him.

At $250M.....I guess it isn't a "girly man" sport anymore...just went into the "real man" sport....not a soccer fan....don't really follow it....still think that the game is for "girly men".....but I am not naive enough to say that it does have a very large following outside of the USA......hope he doesn't end up like our A-Rod....the other $25oM man........will follow it now just to see how he does!!........for the record....if someone is paying him that much then he must be worth more to the group paying him that kind of money!!
