The EU and the EC are different. Full membership of the EU is the 27 countries listed in the first answer. The EC is governed by the Agreement of the European Economic Area (this is basically a way of making trade between European countries easier) and includes the three others mentioned in the third post. Us Europeans like to make things confusing!!

EC is all of the first answer, plus Norway, Iceland, and Faroe Islands.
