I have a pint of 91% solution; how much water I need to add to get a 40% solution?

For extra credit, guess the name & use of the resulting substance.

i thought you were good at math!
you got .91 pints of solute. divide that by .40 to get 2.275 pints of solution. that means 1.275 extra pints of water.

this is called watered down beer. you use it when you're poor and you got too many people over at your place.

ok, the ACTUAL answer is 80 proof vodka. google up distillation processes and you'll see how they water down 180 proof to 80 proof before they bottle it.

P.S. that was a terrible joke! if you act like a retard with all of these retards running around, it's not funny! it's NORMAL! :(

Okay, that means you have to have a 60% water.
So, letting x be how much water, then (x+.08)/(x+1)=.6.
SO, .6x+.6=x+.08, or .52=.4x.
So, x=.52/.4 = 1.3 pints of water.
