If I was at the point where I felt I needed to strap him to the polygraph that means he has done something. For me it would be best just to end the relationship there because I would probably not believe the test results if they said he didn't do anything. I think my gut is better than any test. I guess the only way I would consider it is if I was married with children. Then I think you would owe it to your family to take every measure possible.

As horrible as this is to say, if I had the money I would but, you have to take into consideration both sides....
In general, you find out if he did or didn't.
Say he did and you had to find out in a lie detector test...that sucks and you wasted money on that jerk...
Say he takes the test and it says he is telling the truth and he never cheated on you...then that could mess up the relationship because it will take a while for him to get over the fact that you didn't trust him and may even ruin your relationship.
If you really want to find out the safest route to go is through friends and find out for yourself...but don't let him catch you.

If I had to resort to that I'd be ending the relationship. A relationship is made up of love, trust, and respect. If you have to ask than you need to move up. You deserve the best and it's obvious these qualities are very much lacking in your relationship. Move on Good Luck

I wouldn't let my partner take a lie detector test i trust him too much! if i even thought about letting him do that i might as well break up with him because no matter what the test results are i still wouldn't trust him and i know he would hate me after! especially if he was telling the truth!

If you are already thinking this then a lie detector won't solve your problems - what if it's inconclusive? I think you should cut your loses and chalk this up to experience.
Trust lost is extremely hard to gain back - even when you know the trust.
Do you really need this grief in yuor life - No is the answer.
Good Luck

no. if i cannot trust my partner i do not need to be with my partner...being alone is better than being with someone i cannot trust, and if i have trust issues (if i cannot trust others) i need to work through those before getting into a relationship of the nature we are discussing here...i trust my wife, she trusts me, if that were not so we would not waste our time together, time is too precious to waste on the heartbreak, and we just don't need the pain.
