I want to rephrase my question:

Is Myspace most commonly used as a form of self absorbed gluttony?

Of course it is! How else will people show off their popularity when they're not popular in real life...

I like MySpace though. It's like a freak show in your own back yard!
Emo kids, fat naked ladies, guys trying to get laid, really bad bands, really good bands, spoilt pets, cult shops, bad poetry, glitter&glam and people that seem to beautiful to be true.
I always wonder what camera angle they're gonna come up with next to make themselves look good.
It reminds me of "How to become an obnoxious internet cam wh0re in 5 simple steps":...

(Check out the pics, they're hilarious...)

And yeah, there are some fun people that use it well... but they're rather rare...

Depends. I think it can be. Those people that spend 4 hours a day on myspace fall into the category of self absorbed gluttony. On the other hand, I use it like email. It's an easy way to keep in touch with my brother and a few friends that live all over the country. I check it maybe once a week. Some people use it to feel popular. Some people don't.

I suppose it can be... but a lot of people use it as a form of online journal, and others use it to keep in contact with friends.

At some point I am sure there is a line between just talking about what happened during the course of one's day and self-absorbed gluttony. If someone spends every waking moment on MySpace talking about themselves or answering comments about themselves, that might be a bit much.

I don't use MySpace, but I do use LiveJournal a few times a week. It's a good way to keep in contact with long-distant friends and to read about their day, and to keep a journal about my own day--one that I don't mind other people reading, of course.

I think people need to get over the whole myspace thing... Its just a website.... Why are people losers because they go on myspace? thats like saying we are all losers for being on yahoo answers! Its just a website. If people have 15 hours to spend on myspace... do you honestly care? I know I dont have 15 hours to spend on line.. but I do have a myspace.. I keep in touch with old friends, and get to express myself on my own space... I dont think its self absorbed gluttony... its just something to do to pass the time when you're bored.. and something to express yourself... People look too much into these things... what is the big deal, honeslty... If you like it, who cares?! If you dont, who cares!? Its just a thing people do for fun.

I agree with robtheman! If you have a sexy picture/pictures of yourself... I believe that the gluttony thing is really working for ya. I use myspace to keep in touch with my pals up north.

no its not. i use myspace to meet new people and keep in touch with my friends when I'm not int eh same city as them. sadly most of them stopped checking their real emails once they got a myspace. I'm only on mine for like 1 hr or less.

Seems like it. Everyone's page is a collection of what they want to put on it. Like a scrap book.

I think they're losers w no lives. I didn't have internet/computer when I was a teen, what did I do? I went out and enjoyed the world.

Basically. I can see it being viewed as some kind of measure of importance in accordance to how many friends one has in the minds of those that do it. It's just a fad really. Nothing much more than that.

Good question!

But isn't that something that each individual would have to answer, since narcissism that's pointed out, does little good.

And it might be extreme or excessive for one person, but restrained for another.

It is just a web site, you know, and it's not 'real.'
