Cheapest isn't always best, and may even put your safety at risk. It's best to go with companies that have experienced guides that 1) will make sure you are well provisioned and 2) know what to do if you develop acute altitude sickness or get otherwise injured. When we were in Tanzania last year a local travel agent who had been up Kilimanjaro several times recommended Zara (http://www.zaratravel.com/) who operated out of Moshi as the best, but there are others.
When you pay a company to take you up, you get porters who carry most of your equipment and cooks who make sure you're well fed. Also, company's like Zara's also seem to have equipment to rent, so you don't have to buy things like trekking poles etc. Unless you are an experienced climber, I wouldn't recommend trying to go it alone. If you go in the off season you can get reduced prices and smaller groups.
Do some searches online, and look for companies that seem to have good records. One of the guys in my group did climb Kilimanjaro with Zara last year and made it all the way to the summit.
