This is quite a generalization. I have many negative things to say about the President and other political jerks, but I have very little in the way of negative things to say about my friends. Maybe you need better friends.
Everyone weighs and assesses the people around her. This is human nature. We have to do this, in order to smell potential trouble. Being overly suspicious qualifies as paranoia, however, and that's warped.
Friends are nice to each other, even behind each other's backs.

This seems like a overgeneralization.
If you are looking for negative comments you will always find them.
Negativity is subjective. It may be negative to one person, and prudent or wise or positive to another.
So the answer to this question is - because you are the one listening to them.
