I never thought the Iraq invasion was a good idea, and I know a lot of Americans feel the same way.. but that being said, I have nothing but the utmost respect for people who chose to serve their country.

So partisan politics aside - assuming you object to the war - how do YOU support your troops, and if you haven't been - don't you think its time you did?

BTW: I'm Canadian - and haven't visited the States since the Iraq invasion.

Supporting the troops is quite different from supporting the war and politicians who promote wars. People I know support the troops by sending stuff to them like the previous poster mentioned, by not booing them or making their lives miserable once they return, by supporting higher budget for vets (partially via higher taxes - money has to come from *somewhere*), by letting armed forces wives have flexible jobs so they can be decent single parents while the husband is away, supporting a widow/widower... lots of ways to support the troops.

Ideally, we would spend a lot more on mental health for returned vets, we would spend a lot more on families left behind... problem is, we don't because that would increase the budget and possibly taxes.

But I won't support someone who "follows the orders" to kill or torture.

I have given some money to go towards some personal supplies for the troops.though I am disabled and couldn't send much.and I pray for them most every night.and I stay informed.I and some Friends tried to go across the border once into Canada many years ago.they would nt let us in because we had long hair I think.and I told the women if that's the way you are. Y'all would be talking Southern right now if Canada was next to South Carolina because we would have had a war. and you all would be talking Southern right now.Ha Ha . I have met a number of Canadians and they all were nice people. .Thanks for asking the question. No matter the policies of the Feds.we should always support our brave & honorable troops.Peace

The troops are young men and women that stand ready to fight for this country.
The war is a political matter.
They are two distinctly different things.
The troops have to go where the administration sends them.
They have no choice in the matter and quite frankly it doesn't make any difference to them where they are sent or whether it was a right or wrong decision.
Intelligent rational minded people (like you seem to be) can make the distinction.
Idiots cannot.

I support the troops by watching the news and writing letters to my representatives, even including that idiot Bush Jr. The best thing I can do is keep asking that the troops be sent "home." Or if not sent home at least taken out of the war zones so that they can be with their families on other overseas bases.

I don't respect or support the troops! They have a choice a they chose to do something illegal and immoral. They are worse than the leader leading them. It takes a real hero to stand up and do and say what they believe is right instead of being a god damn lemming.

**If it takes prison time to do the right thing than so be it.**

Why be scum of the world by killing people just because they told you to. SOLIDERS CREATE WAR, NOT LEADERS. If leaders didn't have soliders there would be no war.

Send cards and letters to the troops... donate things they might nee dor want from home (anything from a carton of cigarettes to a box full of paperback books...); and let them know that we're proud of their deciation to their duty, and to their country... even if the powerful people, sitting comfortably behind their desks in Washington have sent them to fight an illegal war...

Now, these soldiers are dying over there... and facing that on a daily basis takes great courage...

There a many diferent ways to support them, one is vote for politics who want to bring them back, and let the UN army to administrate Iraq, just like Clinton did in 1994 with the conflict of Yugoslavia

Just put it this way, they don't make the decisions, they're just soldiers doing what their told. We can't hate them for that and it takes guts to be out there, so whether you support or not, you have to back them because most of the soldiers are regular guys/girls like you and I.

I support them by voting in the people who can bring them home to their family's, and make sure they get all the help they need to get over the trauma they went through.
