The D stands for Degrees, meaning your calc will treat trigonometric functions using degrees as the measure for angles (360 degrees in a circle).

If you press the "rad" button, the D will be replaced by an "R" for radians (2*pi radians in a circle).

Pressing "gra" will switch to gradians (G), which are 400 in a circle. This is practically never used in math class but I think is used by engineers.

So you will always have either D, R, or G on that display.

Edit: Some calcs don't have separate "deg", "rad", gra" buttons, but a single "DRG" button which will alternate among the three modes.

GO and PRESS the MODE button, which will show a number of choices, then DESELECT Degrees or make sure "Degrees" is not highlighted. That should take care of it. Turning on or off will not do it.

If you are not doing trigonometric or geometric calculations, it should not affect your usual add, subtract, multiply or divide calculations. Except that it apparently annoys you. However, it makes a lot if difference in calculating angles that require a certain format, DEGREES or RADIANS.
