I have one of those small lift-top apartment mailboxes mounted on the side of my house. These mailboxes of course have no flags. How else could I let the carrier know that the letters in my box are for him/her to _take_, not yesterday's mail that I forgot to bring into the house?

Use a clothespin or something that holds the mail that you want to send out together. This usually notifies the mailperson that he/she needs to take this when they leave something. And clip it to the edge of the mailbox. Do not place it in the mailbox as the mailperson might not see it.

They should check everday to see any mail is going out and to make sure it was not from the day before by looking at the post mark. Maybe even buying a mailbox with a flag on it. Good Luck

I prefer to drop it at the post office and /or mailbox on the street,,as leaving mail out to be picked up , is a potential for theft.. With this day and age of identity theft, just a suggestion,, to keep all potential incoming or outgoing mail out of the wrong hands..

Put a piece of red fabric just hanging from the flap, with a note instructing him/her to put it in the box when the mail has been retrieved. Problem solved

We used to leave a clothes pin(one that pinches) on the box. That is what our mail carrier told us to do. Ask you carrier what they prefer.

Use a clip to hold the mail on the out side of the box so the mail man can see it. or talk to the mail man and see how he/she wants to do it
