Some people answering seem to be confusing the creation of schools with the instituting of mandatory schooling.

Schools have been around for a very long time. It was a way to group together individuals who wanted to learn more, instead of relying on single tutors or mentors. The schools in the Middle Ages tended to be religious-oriented schools where the boys learned Latin and other things, but often as a preparation for life in the Church. Time moves ahead and schools developed designed for the upper crust, where their boys could be sent to to get an education--an important part of being in the upper crust. Schools for just common folk were often still tied to churches. Education was a symbol of 'being better'.

So you would know how to use proper English when writing that question?

Why were schools invented? OR Why was school invented?

AND REALLY: they were started on the belief that common schooling could create good citizens, unite society and prevent crime and poverty. http://www.servintfree.net/~aidmn-ejournal/publications/2001-11/PublicEducationInTheUnitedStates.html

In order for people to get the lowest scores and suffer until they succeed. In fact, in my country there's a prince who brought schools to the people, thus some kids say: why the hell he did it?!!
For me, life is a school since we learn a lot of things from it. Parents are a school, the society itself is a school.

Schools were invented to get kids out of fields and out of factories where they were getting hurt. Then people started to realize that the kids would be the ones to run the world someday and they would have a better chance if they were educated.
