Beauticians usually take Sunday and Monday off so they can have two days off in a row and pretend it's their weekend, since they all work Saturdays.

my theory is that since most are open on Saturday, they close on Monday for a two day weekend (just a theory - I don't know if this is the case or not)

I think it is because they usually stay open on Saturday... so that they can have two days off.
