i think it's great that u want a tattoo and the shoulder is fine but don't get one anywhere gross or one of something that just isn't acceptable for a 40 yr old female. maybe a tattoo of something you have accomplished the past year or a zodiac sign. a tattoo associated with any kids if u have any....or maybe something that represents how u feel about getting older.

Something small and girly. A beautiful flower would look great on your shoulder. I would pick one that's very unique with beautiful colors. Seeing your about to turn 40, I think this would suit you nicely.

How about a rose or butterfly? Maybe go by the tatoo shop and see what designs they have and pick one.

Spend as much time as you possibly can thinking about it.Pick something that you know you will like for the rest of your life. Remember, its still going to be there when your 85 and wrinkly. Get one of elvis now and by the time your cashing your pension he could well look like Clinton. Believe me, i regret getting mine and it's costly getting them removed now days. I sugest something plain and nuetral. How about a nice butterfly or a chinese letter of the initial of your child etc. That way, it will always have meaning and you stand less chance of regreting it later on.

Depends... What are you into? R there any memororable events in your life?
For example... If I were to get tattoos right now I would have 3 angels. One on each shouldre and one at the base of my neck each one carrying a sword. One for each of my children that died before having the chance to take their first breath. Two via abortion and one by miscarriage.

Get something that means something to you and something you won't immediately regret. Do go to the tattooist first and look at their designs but don't go for the first one you see, go home and think about it. Alternatively, design your own then its extra special.

I've just had a tattoo done (wed) on my shoulder for my 40th!
My husbands is called Robin, so I had a little cute Robin
If you go into a good clean tattooist, they will have loads of designs for you to choose from.
Good Luck & well done for having the courage to have it done!

How about a nice monkey face. Monkeys are cool and fun - people will see the tattoo and think "That lady is cool and fun like a monkey". That's what I would get done.
