Satire isn't just about sarcasm, satire is humorous criticism of something. It can become sarcastic, but satire is more effective if it's more subtle and clever.

Think about the Colbert Report. It's a satire of conservative pundits' television shows because it pretends to be one, but Stephen Colbert makes such outrageous statements that you know he's got to be lying.

I would reccommend taking a quick look at the wikipedia page on satire, then check out the Onion (a fake newspaper website that's pretty much the best satire out there right now).

A satire essay doesn't involve using strong language. It means you sort of make fun of people using normal, everyday words put in a certain context and said with a certain tone. You also bring out the truth some want to hide and make fun of it apparently innocently and unknowing that the person didn't want it told.
It's pretty hard to write a good satire essay - but look towards politics - it's very easy. And read some newspapers of which you heard have this kind of articles.
