Steps of the scientific method
1. Name the problem or question
2. Form an educated guess (hypothesis)
of the cause of the problem and make
predictions based upon the hypothesis
3. Test your hypothesis by doing an
experiment or study (with proper controls)
4. Check and interpret your results
5. Report your results to the scientific
community

Here's a write up on the scientific method (this one has 7 steps) but I've been working in science for 30 years and no one uses it. It's something they teach in the lower grades that is nonexistent.

1.Choose a Problem
2.Research
3.Hypothesis
4.Plan Experiment
5.Conduct Experiment
6.Organize Data
7.Review Results
8.Conclude(Do you support you hypothesis?)

Notice how the question of origins (be that evolution, creation, or other) is not examinable by the scientific method as described by others above.
For that we have to resort to philosophy.
