Fair doesn't come into it. He likes her and she likes him.
You need to bow out gracefully, even if privately you think he doesn't have very good taste! But she is your friend so you want her to be happy. There isn't anything you can do to make him like you instead of her.
If there is any doubt though, don't chase him. Be unavailable (to him that is) and whatever you do, don't discuss him with your friend. You don't want her to tell him how you feel and have them sniggering at you behind your back. Act cool and disinterested and slightly superior but not excessively so. Hopefully it will at least save your face, and it may pique his interest especially if his interest in your friend wanes when he gets to know her better.
But you have to realise that no human being is a commodity that someone else can be entitled to because they "saw him or her first". Imagine how you'd feel if you liked a guy but he thought he couldn't go out with you because his friend liked you before he did, and you weren't remotely interested in his friend.

sorry. but you put dibs on a human being! Find a new friend or a new guy to fancy, i suggest a new guy, becos she's ur friend and she was there 4 u b4 this guy came along u shouldn't dump ur friend for a guy, and if she goes out wid him, it means she ain't a real friend, then find a new friend, don't try 2 take revenge, waste of time and energy. And that guy was the love of your life he would hav asked u out already, which proves hes just another guy, that you fancy, and there will be others.

omgosh, something like that happened to me a few years ago.
OK if she actually does like him and if he likes her then maybe he wasn't meant for you. You may like him now but later on if she does get into a small relationship with him then you will be able to see what he is like closer up. That will give you the chance to see if he is the kind of guy for you or not. If their relationship doesn't go well and you know he is right for you tell your Friend and see what she says. Let her tell you about him on her point of view.
and if that doesn't happen, if she doesn't really like him for some reason then take a chance and see what he is like.

I know it will be hard but if they get together you will have try to put on a brave face. You don't want to ruin your friendship over a guy. Start looking for all the bad and annoying things about him and you'll be surprised at how many you can find. This will soon put you off him and you'll be glad that he prefers your friend.

It depends how strong is the relationship between you and your friend. it happened to me with my best friend the same thing a couple of years ago.I used to like a guy....but he liked her...so I just gave up. I mean, it was obvious that he liked her and not me....so I wouldn't have any chance with him. And our friendship is more important that any guy.
so if he likes her...just let it be, you still have time to find your prince charming :P.

Depending on how strong your friendship is, you could try discussing it with her but if this man really likes her then there's not very much you can do. Also, you have to make a decision as to who is more important - your friend or the man!!

just stay calm about it until that you are sure that he likes her. be careful and tell your friend your feelings, and if she doesnt care then shes not a true friend. but if he likes her, and she likes him, you cant keep them apart just because you like him, its not fair to them both...sry bout it but its true
