Entitlement mentality....everybody thinks the gov't is there to take care of them. A growing number of people don't want to be held accountable for their own actions. If people desire to prosper they will. If people surround themselves with losers that is exactly what they will become........Go to the library and learn something for nothing.

You're serious or this is one the dumb joke questions.

Poverty is caused firstly by a lack of money, a lack of opportunity, sometimes a lack of education and many times sexism where men treat women as if they chattel to be owned and dictated to, not as human beings.

What causes poverty? Many things: a lack of education,a lack of opportunity, large international banks and their monetary funds charging huge interest rates on loans, disability or other illness, Governments who don't care and keep minimum wages low and complain it will hurt the economy, as well as society who thinks people who need social assistance are pikers and bums and lazy.

It is estimated that much of the US and probably Canada as well is one pay cheque away from poverty. People lose their jobs, run out of unemployment benefits, they may have huge credit card bills they've run up because we've come to live in a society in the west where if I don't get it instantly I'll be unhappy and I'll make everyone feel guilty because I can't have it. North American society have become narcissits and are living far beyond their means trying to keep up with images on tv and in the movies.

Then there is poverty of spirit, where people don't have good self- esteem due abuse as children, lack of opportunity, disability . People look to things to make them happy rather than their families and friends. They see rich people on tv and in the movies and think I'll never measure. They don't believe in anything bigger than themselves, they're depressed, they're unhappy and have nowhere to turn. They become angry, jealous, start terrorism acts because they believe people who are supposedly religious leaders that subvert the bible, the qua'ran, the torah etc.for their own radical philosophical or political intent.
That is poverty of the spirit and is far more handicapping than monetary poverty. And far more deadly for the world.

It happens when people can't get rich.

I.e. when they are lazy, or when they can't get fair compensation for their work, e.g. when there is no legal protection protecting for labor and private property.
