Very few agents deal in poetry. Literary agents earn their fees from the payments publishers make to writers. Because very few publishers actually pay anything for poetry beyond copies or small amounts that barely cover the costs of paper and postage, there is little profit motive to cause agents to devote time and effort on the behalf of poets.

It is not difficult for you to submit your poems directly to publishers. The first step is to identify publications that feature the kind of poetry you write. A visit to a good library, especially a university library, will help you sort out the most promising publications.

Below, are links that will help you. The first is for a British site, "The Poetry Kit" that has links to many literary magazines and poetry journals. The second is to ticket2write, an on line group for writers and poets. The members from the UK, US and other countries will share good advice with you.

Good luck!

The Writer's Handbook (a new edition every year) has a list of publishers, including those who print poetry. There are also a list of literary magazines which accept it. Sometimes it's best to go straight to the horse's mouth.

Of course, if you want to get an agent, it also lists those, and a quick read will tell you which ones accept poetry. Most of them don't charge a reading fee, so don't be afriad to send it to a couple for their opinion before you settle on one.

Good luck and all from a fellow poet.

you should get an agent earlier you get a writer. you should write down a question letter and deliver it to at least a million achieveable brokers earlier you actually have a mild probability of an agent taking you on. Publishers and brokers like youthful authors, ascertain you factor out it on your question letter. And regardless of you do, do not upload it to an information superhighway web site. Technically that's one of those publishing and no agent or publishing abode will settle for you in the experience that your artwork is already out in the international for loose. Which also skill you won't be able to deliver it to all and sundry. noticeably in case you're concerned about copyright, all and sundry could scouse borrow it or write a spin off of what you provide them.
