go up north. rent a cottage on a lake.
Hubbard Lake i think is the best all around sports lake. i know there is a very nice cottage for rent on Caledonia Road on the northeast side. (i have a cottage on the same street) it might be a little big, so maybe you can invite a couple of more people to get your moneys worth. im not sure how you can rent it though. i cant seem to find a website.
if it is too big, try this other one on south shore.

Hubbard Lake is located in northern Alcona County on the northeast side of the state. it is about 20 miles southwest of alpena. Located in northern Alcona, scenic Hubbard Lake is on of Michigan’s largest inland lakes. It was named for Dr.Bela Hubbard, who, along with Dr. Douglass Houghton, first surveyed the area in 1850. Then a strategic military location for Indians because of the high ground at the lake’s southern end, it soon changed into a prime lumbering area. The source of the South Branch of the Thunder Bay River, a dam built here helped regulate the flow of timber to Lake Huron at Alpena. Shortly afterwards, settler Austin Backus built a hotel on the south side, (now Backus Beach) which helped make the area a popular resort. Since then, the lake has seen tremendous growth - today it has become a prime resort area, retirement spot and real estate investment opportunity. The lake’s widest point stretches 7 miles from North Bay to Backus Beach - spanning the area of three townships: caledonia, alcona, and Hawes (These spacious waters once attracted hydroplane designer/racer Les Stoddiker here to research craft design and durability before the final runs at Great Salt Flats). A small town named Hubbard Lake can also be found one mile north of the lake, just over the border into Alpena County’s Ossineke Twp. The lake’s natural beauty can be easily appreciated by a drive north on Mt. Mariah Road from Backus Beach to North Bay - a breathtaking view. Several fine resorts, restaurants and golf courses in the area help make for a pleasant day’s visit. Be sure to stop by on your next trip up north! Mt. Maria, on the south shore, is the most famous place in the county, and was listed by National Geographic as one of the ten most beautiful lake views in the country. At the top of Mt. Maria is the site of the Austin Backus Memorial. The Mt. Maria Lodge, at the bottom of the hill, is home to Hubbard Lake's most extensive museum of local history, with hundreds of photo's of Austin Backus and the early residents of this area.

The Henry Ford Museum is great, and next door during the warmer months Greenfield Village is great especially for a family. The winter is great for skiing except this year so far. A trip to a state park with a lodge for rent would be nice.
